How to clean your mattress?

Consider a mattress that the average person spends roughly a third of their lives sleeping, mattress cleaning is a necessary. Although admittedly awkward and time-consuming, following this step-by-step procedure can make the task less daunting.

Why is it essential to clean your mattress?

Although cleaning your bed might feel like a daunting task, it can be extremely important. If you avoid cleaning your bed, over time the bed could potentially develop unwanted and potentially harmful substances. Typically, these substances are mold, bed bugs, odors, and dust mites.

By cleaning your bed on a regular basis you can help to prevent a lot of these issues while maintaining a healthy sleeping environment.

Mattress Spot Cleaning & Stain Removal:

While few marks and few stains on a mattress may sound a little ludicrous for adults, believe it or not, they happen more frequently than you would expect. Maybe you have kids or a dog. Or better yet, maybe you enjoy eating/drinking in bed and end up spilling your tasty glass of wine all over your mattress. Now what? Here is what you don’t do, forget about it. Your mattress is more than likely going to be with you for at least 8-12 years. It is time to take care of those stains that you never thought were possible.

What you will need:

Vacuum with upholstery attachment
Cold Water
Sponge
Mild DRY Laundry detergent
Upholstery Shampoo
Electric fans (optional)
Shop Vac (optional).

The Cleaning Process:

Move your bed mattress away from your walls, furniture, etc. and make sure that it is accessible from all sides.

Using the upholstery attachment, vacuum the bed thoroughly on both sides. Some vacuums will have attachments that are specially designed for bed cleaning which is especially effective in removing dust and other particles because of their vibrating action.

Next, you want to tackle any soiled or stained areas.

Mix about one to two tablespoons of laundry detergent with about 1 quart of cold water and mix vigorously to form thick suds (a hand-whisk may help in this regard).

A wet sponge dipped in a cleaning solution and also rub soiled areas in the firm, circular motion until the stain disappears, rewetting that sponge as necessary (for stubborn stains, see cleaning methods listed below). Be aware that this method will only work for superficial (surface) stains, and that if the stain has soaked into the mattress padding, it may be impossible to remove entirely.

A mattress will be damp after cleaning. Allow drying completely before using. The mattress can be allowed to air dry in a warm location. Placing a couple of fans around the mattress may hasten the drying process.

Cleaning your bed on a consistent basis is extremely important. If you avoid doing so, your bed is likely to gradually become dirtier and dirtier to the point that it inhibits performance and creates other potential health issues. By taking the time to wash your bed sheets or clean your bed itself, you are prolonging the life of your mattress in addition to providing a healthier sleeping environment for yourself. There are more mattress brands are available in India.
